TAMKO Roofing in Arkansas

TAMKO is the closest thing to a hometown shingle Arkansas has. The company is based in Joplin, Missouri, a few hours up the road, and its Heritage shingle has been on Arkansas roofs for decades. It is one of the five brands Rumble Roofing installs from Little Rock to Jonesboro. The TAMKO shingles we install

Heritage is the classic TAMKO architectural shingle, recently rebuilt with what TAMKO calls a completely redesigned formula and proprietary TriShield technology. The Heritage brochure describes it as designed to protect roofs up to 130 mph winds under a 15 year limited wind warranty when installed to the instructions, with a 10 year algae cleaning limited warranty. Highlighted colors include Rustic Black, Oxford Grey, and Weathered Wood, and those three are what we see most across Central Arkansas.

Titan XT is the heavier-duty step up. TAMKO advertises a 160 mph wind warranty when the roof uses TAMKO starter and hip and ridge products, an AnchorLock layer and TriShield technology for reinforcement, and a Class 3 impact rating. Titan XT comes in two color collections: America's Natural Colors blends like Autumn Brown, Black Walnut, Mountain Slate, Natural Timber, Painted Desert, and Thunderstorm Grey, plus a Classic Colors group that includes Antique Slate, Desert Sand, Glacier White, Rustic Black, and Rustic Redwood.

For hail there is StormFighter FLEX. It is a polymer-modified shingle built with TAMKO's ForceFX polymer technology, carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance rating, the highest available, and has the same 160 mph wind warranty with TAMKO accessories. Colors include Black Walnut, Olde English Pewter, Oxford Grey, Rustic Black, Rustic Cedar, Rustic Slate, Thunderstorm Grey, and Weathered Wood. TAMKO also lists a StormFighter IR product in its warranty document.

What the TAMKO warranty actually covers

TAMKO's fiberglass asphalt shingle limited warranty gives Heritage, Titan XT, StormFighter IR, and StormFighter FLEX a Limited Lifetime term on single-family homes, with a 10 year Full Start non-prorated period up front. Standard wind coverage ranges by product, with the 160 mph high wind coverage requiring TAMKO starter and hip and ridge accessories. The algae coverage is a 120 month algae cleaning warranty that covers cleaning labor rather than shingle replacement. The original owner can transfer the warranty one time during the first five years.

The warranty document is blunt about what it does not cover, and we will be too. It covers manufacturing defects. It specifically excludes acts of God including hurricane, tornado, and hail. So if a spring hailstorm in Bryant or a straight-line wind event in Jonesboro damages your TAMKO roof, that is a homeowners insurance claim, not a warranty claim. Rumble Roofing is not enrolled in any TAMKO contractor program. TAMKO's site mentions enhanced system warranties for contractors in its program, and we are not in it. You receive TAMKO's standard limited warranty, and we register it for you after the install. We will not imply otherwise.

How TAMKO fits Arkansas weather

Hail. Heritage and Titan XT are Class 3. If hail is why your roof is coming off, StormFighter FLEX with the Class 4 rating is the TAMKO product to price. Ask your insurance agent about a Class 4 discount, because Arkansas carriers often offer one.

Wind. The 160 mph wind warranty on Titan XT and StormFighter FLEX is the highest number among the five brands we carry, but read the fine print: it requires TAMKO starter and hip and ridge and correct nailing. Nothing is rated for a direct tornado hit like March 31, 2023, but for the spring straight-line winds that peel shingles off across Central Arkansas every year, a properly installed Titan XT system is about as good as asphalt gets.

Heat and humidity. TAMKO shingles are made in Joplin for the same climate we live in, hot humid summers and the occasional ice storm. StormFighter FLEX's polymer-modified asphalt is designed to stay flexible through heat cycles. Balanced attic ventilation is still the biggest factor in how long any shingle lasts here.

Algae. The 10 year algae cleaning warranty covers cleaning labor, not replacement, so it works differently from the algae warranties on GAF or CertainTeed. If your roof has a heavily shaded north slope, compare the terms.

TAMKO compared to the other brands we install

Here is how TAMKO stacks up. GAF Timberline HDZ has the widest nail zone and a no-maximum wind warranty when the full GAF accessory set is used, with UHDZ as the Class 4 version. Owens Corning Duration has the SureNail strip and a 130 mph wind warranty, with Duration FLEX at Class 4. CertainTeed Landmark is heavier with a 25 year algae warranty and Class 4 ClimateFlex. IKO Cambridge and Dynasty usually price lowest. TAMKO's case is regional manufacturing, short supply lines to Arkansas, a 160 mph wind warranty on Titan XT and StormFighter FLEX, and pricing that typically lands between IKO and the big two. Heritage is also easy to match on repairs because so many older Arkansas roofs already have it.
